Post 6

  1. Prepare and publish a blog post of 300 - 500 words reflecting on your learning. Remember to apply the tag to your post using the "OCL4Ed" tag (called a label in blogger).
  2. Consider the following elements in your learning reflection[1]:
    • clarify of what you have studied (including your work in completing the E-Activities)
    • integrate new knowledge with previous knowledge and experience, i.e how does theory relate to practice?
    • identify the questions you have including why you are asking these questions
    • identify what you have yet to learn.
  3. Comment on 2 blog reflections from your class, where possible, learners who have not received comments on their blog reflections yet.
  4. Important: Log into WikiEducator and register your blog post which is required for tracking minimum participation metrics.

Post 5

Prepare a blog post of approximately 700 - 900 words in two parts:
  1. Write about a topical concept or interesting idea of your choice (400 - 500 words). You don't need to restrict the topic to education, it could be a hobby or personal interest. This component of the blog must include:
    • Text you can legally copy and modify about 300 words.
    • Sources from a minimum of three different Creative Commons license types or open usage declarations (this is intended to explore your knowledge and the challenges associated with license compatibility when choosing the license for redistribution).
    • Over and above the Creative Commons sourced material, this section of the post must also include an extract of all rights reserved content legitimately used under the exception provisions of your national copyright act.
    • You must include at least one image in your post which can count as one of the required license types for this post.
    • Based on your preferred license preference and the legal requirements of the materials you have copied for reuse and adaptation in your blog, you must apply a Creative Commons license for your derivative work which meets the legal requirements for remix compatibility.
    • Your blog post must include proper attributions for the materials you have reused.
  2. In the second part of this blog, write up a short reflection of about 300 words based on your experiences of this activity. Questions you could address, for example, include:
    • Did you need to change your preferred licence choice, and if so why?
    • Who owns the copyright of your blog post? Did this impact on what Creative Commons material you could source? Justify your answer.
    • Does the license you applied meet the requirements of a free cultural works approved license? If not, would it be possible to achieve a free cultural works approved license given the requirements for the number of different license types or open usage declarations required for this post.
    • Any other reflections or observations worth sharing with fellow students.

Post 4

  1. Prepare and publish a blog post containing two multiple choice questions based on a copyright situation (i.e. a mini scenario). You may use the same copyright situation sketch for both MCQs. In your blog post you should:
    • State the context including the country and intended audience for the MCQs.
    • Describe the copyright situation (no more than 200 words) where possible including links to web sites illustrating the real artefacts referenced in your copyright example without breach of your own copyright act.
    • Develop two MCQs based on the mini copyright situation you describe. Your MCQs must:
      • Specify the correct answer for example: ANSWER: <text for correct answer alternative>
      • Specify the distractors, for example: DISTRACTOR: <text for incorrect alternative>
      • Provide formative feedback for all alternatives, that is feedback for correct and incorrect answers. You must specify the reasons why and option is correct or incorrect.
  2. Visit and read the blog posts from fellow students for this Activity and provide feedback by commenting two student posts.
  3. Pay your learning forward. Where possible, please consider using a Creative Commons Attribution or Creative Commons Attribution-Sharealike license for your blog posts. This would enable us to reuse the questions you develop to provide more case study examples for future OCL4Ed students. (In the absence of clearly licensing your post with these licenses, we will not be able to legally use your contibutions for future courses.)

Share your resource about CC

Week 7: Share your resource about CC

Since in Portugal the classes only began this week, it was not possible to show students the presentation that I performed and discuss the CC licenses with them. However, the blog created for this course will be continued and will be the starting point to discuss with the whole school community the importance of Creative Commons licenses.
Anyway, all years I discuss with my students the importance of licenses and they always show a big surprise with some examples that I usually bring to the classroom about people with law problems because they used work from others without attribution or correct licenses.
Only next week will be available this presentation for my school community. After that I will see their reactions.
One of the main problems in Portugal is the fact that only a few teachers talked with their students about the importance of autor rights and about the existing licenses available. Portugal need more teachers and other stakeholders training others to increase the knowledge about this subject.
I will continue to contribute training people of my school community and I will propose training sections every months.
